IEA

Affinity is the home of the Affinity IEA Team and is one of the top IEA teams in Zone 2. We have been Zone Champions, Regional Champions, and Top 10 in the Nation. Over the last two years, long time rider Kelsey Jedra placed 3rd over fences at IEA Nationals, competed in the varsity open championship, and has also qualified for regionals every year she has participated in IEA. Fellow teammate Kira Worden won two Champion ribbons at Regionals along with two Champion ribbons at Zones.

Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) is an opportunity for riders in grades 4-12 to experience horse showing without the expenses of owning and showing their own horse. IEA allows riders to compete individually and as a team against other teams in the same zone. Many riders also have the opportunity to compete in Regionals, Zones, and Nationals.

There are four levels in middle and upper school Flat classes: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Open. In Over Fences (O/F), there are three levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Open. O/F classes are jumped at the height of cross-rails, 2' and 2'6.

SUET
The SU English Equestrian Team was founded in 1998 and have trained under Head Coach Denise Van Patten. Our team is comprised of undergraduate students from Syracuse University and SUNY ESF. SUET competes in Zone 2, Region 2 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). We have had extensive success both individually and as a team through out the years earning multiple High Point Team, Reserve High Point Team, High Point Rider and Reserve High Point Rider awards, in addition to an abundance of regional, zone, and national qualifications. At each show we have riders compete across 6 levels depending on their showing history prior to joining the team.

In years past we have trained at Smoke Tree Farm in Baldwinsville, NY, however, we are thrilled to announce that we will now be based out of Affinity Farm in Skaneateles, NY. Each member of the team is required to take one to two lessons per week. There are often opportunities to spend more time riding and working at the barn throughout the semester.

Outside of lessons and horse shows, we usually get a handful of team bonding events on the calendar each semester. These events may include: apple picking, team dinners, team social events, movie nights, fundraising events, ect. These are a great way for us to hang out, do things as a team, and generally just have fun together!

                                      Camps

Affinity Farm invites your children (6-16) to our summer break camp. We offer an intensive program which focuses on safety and offers hands-on experiences in horsemanship and the science of equine management. Our camp has a riding program to fit everyone's level.

Each exciting and fun filled day will be packed with horse activities including a daily riding lesson, horse science, and gymkhana (games on horseback). Our program is directed by knowledgeable staff and instructors, including certified school teachers.

The curriculum is easily customized to fit each student’s ability and interest level. As the children progress, intermediate and advanced activities are designated to combine children with similar skill levels. Each activity builds on the child’s confidence, self esteem and coordination skills while developing a work ethic and sense of responsibility.

Connecting horses and people...

"For an older adult rider this is a perfect fit. Kim has an exceptional understanding of adult learners and so much patience with us. Her barn is superbly run and she has the friendliest group of young riders. Everyone gets along and helps each other. I am so fortunate to be a part of Affinity Farm!"
